President's Message: 2007 April PDF Print E-mail

Dear Members

Creativity is our theme this month. I challenge each of you as we listen to Sam Horn in our April meeting to open your minds to her message. If you know your work is good but feel it goes unnoticed maybe it is time for some new ideas. Come and learn how to develop innovative approaches that will help you and your offerings become one-of-a-kind.

Whether you are introducing yourself at a networking function or interviewing for a job, you have to capture the audience within the first 60 secondsSam's premise of POP is that the best way to attract instant interest is to make your communication Purposeful, Original, and Pithy. You have to stir intrigue, curiosity, and hunger for more.

As president of ASTD, I am looking forward to getting some creative ideas from everyone about applying Sam?s process to our chapter.  What innovative approaches can help us and our offerings get noticed and heard better?

In reading the first chapter of her book POP! Stand Out in Any Crowd I found myself delighted with the combination of humor and good sense. You can find a sample of the book at samhornpop.com.

If you joined us last month you know we had a very successful joint meeting with the PMI group.  The speaker was excellent and we had the opportunity to meet some very knowledgeable project managers. I would like to extend our thanks to Sunny Sethi, Leah Zackary and the many others that worked so hard to make the March meeting a success.

Some of you have graciously volunteered to lend a hand and if you have not been contacted and still wish to help in some way please let me know at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . We also have had a number new members join and if you are feeling a little lost please feel free to contact myself or one of our board members to help you find your nich in our chapter.  We want every member to feel welcome and to have the opportunity to share their talent with us.

Remember, using our creativity when we feel boxed in can sometimes help us discover a whole new direction to success.

I look forward to seeing each of you Thursday, April 12th at the Francis Tuttle Reno campus at the northwest corner of Reno and Rockwell. We begin registration at followed by lunch at and the speaker at 1200.

Linda Lumen, President
