Chapter Incentive Program (ChIP)
The Chapter Incentive Program (ChIP) is a revenue-sharing program that offers chapters an opportunity to earn additional revenue. Through ChIP, chapters can earn thousands of dollars from new business they generate for ASTD programs and services. Each chapter is assigned a ChIP code. Every person that uses the source code when making an online purchase on the ASTD Store will be contributing to your chapter's financial health, further enabling you to accomplish your chapter's mission.

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: How do I find my chapter sourcecode?
A: See the Online Chapter Directory. Chapter source codes look like this: CH1234
Q: Are chapters required to participate in the CHIP program?
A: No. Like many ASTD resources for chapters, this program was created based on feedback from chapter leaders. Individual chapters decide their level of participation in this program.
Q: How will this be tracked?
A: ASTD uses an association management software package called TIMSS, that can report revenue based on source codes. ASTD will periodically run reports that show revenue associated with each chapter code. A percentage of that revenue will be calculated based on the revenue share amount for specific products. That amount will then be sent to each chapter by check. For privacy reasons, chapters will not be sent purchase records of individual members.
Q: How is the revenue share sent to chapters?
A: ASTD will send checks to chapters on a quarterly basis. If the chapter sets up electronic funds transfer, they will have their money direct deposited quarterly.
Q: What about people who have already registered for the conference or purchased a product without the chapter source code?
A: Unfortunately, this program is not retroactive. However, if someone tried to use the chapter source code and was unable to for some reason, we will work with them.
Q: Do people have to be ASTD or chapter members in order to use the chapter source code?
A: No. Anyone can use the chapter source code.
Q: If a person uses our chapter source code to register for an ASTD conference or buy something, will they get a discount?
A: Using the chapter source code will not trigger any special discount. However, there are so many existing discounts, special offers, early bird registrations, etc., that many people using the chapter source code will benefit from those. This program is an incentive for chapters. Another aspect is that chapters may find creative ways to reward/thank their own members, such as with a special event, leadership development, etc.
Q: Regarding the International Conference; how does CHIP affect the Chapter Delegation program of previous years?
A: CHIP replaces the chapter delegation method of previous years. Before, chapters had to assemble groups of people before realizing any benefit. Now, chapters don't have to assemble a group before they can benefit from promoting the conference. This program is also much easier for the chapter to administer because they don't have to keep track of their group.
Chapters will earn up to $80 for each person who registers for the International Conference with the chapter source code. Please don't confuse this program with the group rates offered to corporations, government groups, and international groups.
Q: When it comes to conferences, does CHIP apply only to ICE or also to other conferences offered by ASTD (e.g.; TechKnowledge)?
A: It also applies to TechKnowledge.
Q: Can chapter leaders get a list of people who purchase an item with the chapter source code?
A: No. Individual privacy needs to be respected. More generalized reporting may be possible later if it does not raise privacy concerns.
Q: What benefits do individuals receive by using the chapter code?
A: They benefit by helping their chapter be more successful. Chapters are an important part of ASTD and the profession as a whole. Chapters are nonprofit organizations that strengthen their communities, help people build skills, find jobs, etc. For now, at least, individuals will be benefiting from the existing array of discounts, rather than one triggered from this code specifically. As the program develops, chapter leaders may think of individual incentives that work for their members.
Some chapters have decided to promote this with a special twist, such as earmarking the extra funds for something special... leadership development, community program, a special chapter event, etc.
Q: What products and services apply?
A:
- For each new ASTD member with chapter source code: $20
- For each renewing ASTD member with the chapter source code: $10
- For each International Conference registration with the chapter source code: 10% percent (not to exceed $80).
- For each ASTD-published book sold with the chapter source code: 5%. (Books not published by ASTD are not included in the CHIP program).
- For HPI and ROI courses: the chapter will receive a percentage of the registration fee, and the registrant will receive a discount.
- For CPT (Certified Performance Technologist) programs, chapters will earn $50 when someone participates with their chapter source code.
Q: What if a member uses the chapter code to join national ASTD at a discounted rate?
- A: The chapter can still benefit from someone who joins national ASTD at a discounted rate (anything less than $199). The revenue share is as follows:
- New Member: 10% of the discounted rate.
Renewing Member: 5% of the discounted rate. discounted rate.
