Value Stream Mapping
Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a lean technique used to analyze and improve the flow of material and information currently required to bring a product or service to a customer. It is a tool that helps you to understand the entire process and enables you to see the source of waste in the value stream. VSM provides a common language to tie together Lean concepts and techniques to identify opportunities for improvement in your organization. Although VSM is often associated with manufacturing, it is also used in logistics, supply chains, service industries, healthcare, office environment, and product development. Taking a value stream perspective means working on the big picture, not just individual processes--improving the whole, not just optimizing the parts. What are the benefits of Value Stream Mapping? Enables improvements that show up in your bottom line. Helps identify waste and sources of the waste. Provides ability to dramatically reduce inventory and improve lead-time. Illustrates the link between information flow and material flow. Establishes priorities for improvement efforts. Focuses on no-cost or minimal expense improvements to save you money.Builds on a blueprint for lean implementation Aziz Taghizadeh holds a Masters degree from the University of Oklahoma and has been involved in the development and delivery of a variety of training programs during his 20 year career including building maintenance, mail processing, management and leadership development.
